I was never going to run unless I was chasing a ball…basketball, volleyball, etc…and then one day I just decided to start running for exercise and decided I kind of enjoyed it. Started up a running group in physio school and was never into racing, just loved the fact that we had to do was put on some shoes and we could go for a run. Since then running has become a great way to explore when traveling and racing is great to keep me striving for goals…not to win, just to get better.
in 1999 a colleague of mine did a marathon so I decided that I should try that too….so my first official race was a half marathon, and then the Kentville Marathon, after which I landed in the hospital on IV. Since then I did 5 more marathons, including Boston and then when a friend of mine asked me to be his running partner for the Dirty Duo as part of a bet, I trained for my first trail race with Ellie, Bill and a fun crew of people….and I quickly fell in love with the trails. Since then I’ve done a couple of Knee Knackers, the Dirty duo 50km, Chuckanut, Cle Elum, Stormy 50 miler a couple of times, the North Face 50 Endurance Challenge in San Fran, the Vancouver 100 and the Fat Dog 100miler/195k. I’ve also done lots of fun adventure runs, including the Grand Canyon Rim to Rim to Rim, the Juan De Fuca trail and the Howe sound crest trail.
I love introducing others to trail running and have not met anyone yet who hasn’t liked it…so until then I’ll keep doing it. This year my goals are to stay healthy and have fun finishing a few long distance runs. So far Chuckanut and Knee Knacker are on the agenda. I’ve put my name in for the Wasatch 100 miler and still need to figure out a few more 50k’s and 50 milers to throw in the middle somewhere.
